This guy Gary and I have been friends for over a year. The problem is that there are these flirtatious girls who hang around him, and it drives me crazy. They’re total ditzes, and he talks to them about the stupidest things! When I talk to him, we have serious talks, or arguments about religion, and we talk about music. So I can’t stand when he’s around these girls. Am I jealous or just overprotective?
Answer:
You’re probably a little of both. As close a friend as Gary is, that doesn’t mean he can’t have other friends. Don’t get me wrong, it’s definitely a bummer to see someone you like acting as shallow as a puddle. But people have different friendships for different reasons, and sometimes a light, goofy (okay, even stupid) one serves a purpose, too. And let’s face it, it’s probably pretty flattering for a guy to have ditzes hanging all over him.

Meaning of a true friend
A true friend tells the truth.
You can declare a friendship has ended when you find that the person has lied to you or manipulated you over a sustained period of time. Or perhaps you and your so-called friend are trying to avoid each other. You get a sudden moment of insight and realize that there wasn’t really much going on. Most of the time, it’s a situation in which there wasn’t a good relationship to begin with, rather than a case of a solid friendship turning sour.
A true friend is genuine.
Do you feel like you can be yourself when you’re around your friends? True friends can take it when you’re feeling up or down, sad or angry. They let you express what you’re really feeling without trying to change, control or force you to take on another mood.

My boyfriend loves to dance and I don’t— mainly because I can’t. I feel ridiculous when I even try. So whenever we go to dances, he gets frustrated because I’m not happy and won’t participate, and then I get upset because he’s upset, and then every thing’s a mess. Got any advice?

I’m sixteen, and in one year I’ve had five different boyfriends because I keep breaking up with them. I can’t even last two months with a guy. I don’t know what makes me do it, and I usually regret bailing out so soon. I’ve never had a guy break up with me. My friend says I’m just afraid to fall in love. Do you think that’s it? What should I do?

I’m in tenth grade, and when I talk to some guys, I suddenly blush. I also blush if a teacher calls on me or a lot of people are looking at me. I’ve never had this problem before, and because of it I don’t raise my hand as much or talk to as many guys. My mom says guys don’t even notice if a girl is blushing, but I do, and it’s totally embarrassing. How can I stop it?

Sport Girl cliques
These girls are into school sports: volley ball, track, tennis—you name it. They’re the ones who always have rackets sticking out of their backpacks and granola bars in their hands. They can
tell you how many fat grams are in every entree at the cafeteria, and they’re happiest when they’re in motion. In fact, they spend hours on the track or field during training season.
What’s cool about them: Their positive attitudes and their commitment, plus they help raise school spirit.
