I need to make some new girl friends
It’s not that I don’t have any, but I stay in close contact with only a few. We do meet on special occasions like birthdays but it’d be great to have someone to talk to on a weekly basis. Despite meeting new people at work, no one really appears interested in forming friendships. I try to suggest after-work drinks or weekend brunches but the responses are always very non-committal. I’m starting to think that maybe there’s something wrong with me personally. Am I appearing too eager or needy?
answer:
Perhaps you are appearing a little too needy, without knowing you I cannot really tell. But some people are more reserved and as we get older, it’s almost inevitable that friendships will suffer. Keep trying because I think you sound very sociable and you will meet people who feel the same way. Perhaps with your old friends you could all make an effort to meet say, every month, for a catchup and in the meantime keep in touch by phone or email. Friendships don’t have to fall by the wayside but you need to invest time and effort into keeping them going. It is worth it, so hang in there.
