Small bump at the back of my mouth
A few weeks ago, I had a mild cold that developed into sinus problems such as a blocked nose and headaches. A few days ago, I noticed a small bump at the back of my mouth, which I could only feel with my tongue. It has since disappeared but yesterday, the side of my mouth felt sore. Today, there is a small swollen red bump and my mouth hurts and stings on that same side. I’ve been using a mouthwash every few hours to stop the pain and I’m hoping that it’ll also kill the bacteria. What could this be? Is it a virus or due to my sinus and how can I get rid of it?
answer:
You probably have an oral ulcer. You can gargle with salt water or apply topical steroids to calm the area down. You might also want to get your teeth checked with a dentist. Sometimes when teeth are slightly out of alignment, the tissues of the oral cavity get trapped and injured, thus forming an ulcer. Other causes may include you having swallowed a sharp object, which has cut the soft tissue at the back of the throat. Do not eat food and drinks that are too hot so that the affected tissue will not get inflamed. Ice cream and other cold foods will keep the area calm and cool.
