A guide to piercing

If you’re thinking of adding more bling to your body with piercing, consider these stark facts:

According to a study from the Journal of Advanced Nursing, up to two-thirds of people with intimate body piercings experience health problems ranging from site sensitivity to urinary flow changes.

Fifty-two percent of those be jewelled below the belt from the same study experienced urinary flow changes and site sensitivity while 66 percent of those with nipple piercing experienced skin irritation, sensitivity and infections.

Equipment that is not sterilized has the potential to pass on any number of diseases, including leprosy, tetanus, tuberculosis, hepatitis, HIV and other STDs.

It takes six to 10 weeks for pierced private parts to heal.

Clothes of non-natural, breathable material such as nylon will trap moisture next to the skin and aggravate site sensitivity, which leads to skin irritation.
