Foot knee pain
I’ve been doing yoga for six months now but for the first time last weekend, I felt a nagging pain in my knees and ‘ feet. I couldn’t find a comfortable position to sleep in and it was only after I took a painkiller that it went away. Do you think I should be taking supplements? If so, how do I choose which kind? Is there anything specifically for the joints? My auntie was telling me about glucosamine — is it safe for me? I’m 26 years old. Do you advise laying off the yoga and exercise?
answer:
You obviously sprained some ligaments in your feet and knees. You should inform your instructor so that the yoga poses may be modified to suit your capabilities, or better yet, rest. Continue taking painkillers until the pain has stopped. Taking glucosamine may help soft tissue injury, but the best move is to rest the affected joints. When you get an acute injury, apply cold compress, raise the joint and keep it immobolised. Restart yoga and exercise only when the pain has subsided.
