Recovery from vaginal hysterectomy

I have just had a vaginal hysterectomy, but have not been able to find any worthwhile information about the recovery period. I am keen to have a good, safe and quick recovery, without unnecessary risks. I also am very emotional and any family tension causes me a great deal of grief.

answer:
Any operation under a general anaesthetic is a stressful and emotional experience. After an operation, the function of your ovaries can also be erratic, and any premenstrual symptoms you suffered before can be amplified, although you will not get your periods anymore. In terms of the recovery period, as a general guide avoid heavy lifting, upward stretching and sexual intercourse for six weeks. After that, you can gently recommence your usual activities. In the meantime, do not try to do everything yourself. Enlist help until you feel you have your strength back.
