My boyfriend doesn’t care about fashion
My boyfriend - who I love a lot -doesn’t care about fashion a great deal. Which is fine with me. Except that he wears a black belt with brown shoes all the time. Part of his coolness is that he is who he is but this faux pas looks to damn nerdish to ignore. Am I being petty here?

Yes. You are also broadcasting some pretty mixed messages here. Coolness and faux pas? It’s either one or the other. That said, you got one of two choices here. The first is to buy him both a brown belt and a pair of black shoes, then subtly suggest how hot the matching accessories will look when worn together. Secondly, you can not-so-subtly point out this sartorial transgression as simply not the done thing. Then, the ball is in his court. He can choose to do something about it. Or not. In which case this might be something you have to learn to live with.
