I’m losing my hair
I’m 18 years old and I’m losing my hair. It looks very ugly. The doctor said that if there’s no improvement to my hair after treatment, my eyebrows will even fall out. For the moment, I can cover the thinned spots but my friends notice them. I feel very embarrassed. How do I handle this? Please advise.

I’m so sorry this has happened to you. But I’m afraid localized hair loss -the medical term is Alopecia areata - is much more common than is often realized. It is an auto-immune disorder caused by a reaction of the immune system against the body’s own cells. We don’t know why it happens though stress can sometimes be a cause. There is no known treatment but hair usually grows back within a few months. Maybe a wig until it does would make you feel more comfortable? There may also be a support group you can join - try a google search on the Internet. If you can’t find a local group, you maybe able to connect with other sufferers online.
