Why do I get headaches near my period?

Sounds like you’re plagued by menstrual migraines, a type of headache that causes a throbbing sensation and light sensitivity yet only strikes two days before the first three days of your flow. Migraines are linked to fluctuations in estrogen levels, which drop right before your period. Some women are more sensitive to this change and often end up with painful migraines at this time, says the Neurology Department at the Johns Hopkins University. If the migraines persist, see your doctor.
