I’m worried my husband is cheating. What should I do?

First, ask yourself if you’re feeling distrustful because of misplaced anger or if he’s really been acting differently lately. Still believe he’s having an affair? Talk to him. But here’s the advice I give my patients: Don’t start the discussion with an accusation—it’s bound to put him on the defensive and make him blow up or lie to you. He’s more likely to open up if you tell him you’re feeling insecure and ask if there’s something you should know. If he’s cheating, he may be relieved to admit it. And you can only benefit from having the problem out in the open. If he says he hasn’t considered straying, then it’s crucial to determine what’s causing your doubts; trust is the building block of all relationships.
