Don’t be evasive
People can tell when someone is going to say No easier than they can when they’re going to say Yes. Nos are almost always preceded by a reluctant hesitation, hemming and hawing - we get it all the time.
Surprisingly, though, we all insist on trying to swing a No the other way… and often succeed. So, what have we learned from this? Basically, that hemming and hawing and hesitating only encourages the other person to try and squeeze a Yes out of you. They wants you to say Yes. But do you want to? If the answer is No, then say it out loud, say it out clear. Don’t hem and haw and don’t be a muggle! You may even upset a few friends. But being evasive is not helping either them or you.
