What can I talk to him about?
I have a new client who’s male and although our business discussions are fine, making small talk is agonizing. I mean, if this were a date I would never see him again. I’m so used to talking to my female clients about fashion and celebrities. I know he’s not into those subjects so what can I talk to him about?

Turn to every man’s favorite subject: himself! Initially, keep to work talk: How long has he been with his company? What did he do before? What does he like most about working where he does? If he were CEO, where would he take the company? This should settle any awkwardness. After some time, you can broach general male-friendly issues such as “Isn’t great that the World Cup is on again?” or “I can’t decide between a PlayStation or an Xbox.”
