My brother lives out of town so I often mail him small gifts. But he never acknowledges them and I have to ask if they were even received. Is he an unappreciative jerk?

Let me guess: He’s the mollycoddled younger sibling and you’re the older sister who was left to look after him while the folks were at work. Now these roles have extended into your adult lives and both of you think it’s normal. Guess again. It’s obvious that you are hurt by the fact that your brother doesn’t respond to these gestures of caring. So why do you keep putting yourself in this position? Quit it already. It’s not like he’s going to know the difference since he obviously assumes it’s just something that sisters do.
