Weird swelling on her lobe after ears pierced
After getting her ears pierced last year, my sister still continues to have this weird swelling on her lobe. Is that normal? She has two piercings on each ear. After last year’s piercing session, the guy told her it should heal completely in three months. But it still looks pretty bruised to me. Sometimes, some fluid leaks out I’m worried she may have contracted an infection. If so, what should she do?
answer:
Yes, your diagnosis is correct Your sister definitely has an infection and she will need antibiotics. If she does not treat it, she may get terrible scarring or keloid, a bad form of scar tissue arising from an injury. Please advise her to see a doctor before it gets worse. She could inadvertently be inviting infection by changing the studs before they should be changed or not keeping the area clean enough. Hygiene and medical treatment are essential in any body piercing.

I would have to agree with the previous answer given, starting with the check for infection, followed by the appropriate follow-up. I had my ears originally pierced in my teens, they closed, and in my thirties I decided to get new piercings. In about 2 months, both ears had formed keloids. A dermatologist had to cut them off. I was advised not to pierce my ears again, there was a high likelihood of re-occurrence. The strange part of all of this, is that all through my pre-teens and teens, and even softball in my twenties, I was a tomb boy, got every kind of bruise, scratch, etc. you can get, but never did any of them form a keloid.
