My husband and I were fighting a lot and we realised we no longer suit.

We talked about divorce but decided against it because of our child. Then I got close to a colleague and he said he cared for me. We kept in touch and one day, my husband saw an SMS from him; we had a huge fight and he asked for a divorce and I agreed. My friend told me to move out and we’ll settle things once I’ve signed the papers. My family is against the divorce and my friend knows this. I think of him and miss him. What am I to do? I need him more than my husband.

answer:
You may think you need this friend more than your husband, and right now you probably do. But think a few years down the line, when you’re a single parent and your friend’s roving eye has moved onto someone else. I’m not saying that definitely will happen, but it might. You put yourself in an incredibly vulnerable position if you move out now and for what? A bit of flirting on SMS? Try to get couples counselling with your husband and see if you can salvage the marriage. Your child, at least, deserves that.
