Tummy aches and diarrhoea after consuming large meals

I realise that I get tummy aches and diarrhoea after consuming large meals, especially if the food is “rich”. Is it possible that I am just allergic to certain foods or could it be something more serious?

answer:
This sounds a lot more like irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) than either an allergic reaction or infection. IBS is not a disease but a functional disorder, which means that the bowel doesn’t work as it should. With IBS, the nerves and muscles in the bowel are extra-sensitive. For example, the muscles may contract too much when you eat. These contractions can cause cramping and diarrhoea during or shortly after a meal. Or the nerves can be overly sensitive to the stretching of the bowel (because of gas, for example) resulting in cramping or pain. However, IBS is also commonly triggered by a large meal especially if there has been a long gap since the previous one. Also, certain meals with rich and highly seasoned food are notorious for inducing it. Other triggers include coffee, red wine, brandy, whisky, tomatoes and onions and even salads. This is not the result of an allergy to food but a sensitivity to a certain food.
