Marfan Syndrome because of excessive skinniness
I went to see a GP because I had the flu. He took one look at me and asked me to stand up. He measured my arms and legs, and said that my limbs were too long in proportion to my body. He told me that he suspected I may have Marfan Syndrome because of my excessive skinniness. Apparently, this means that my connective tissues are very weak. He asked me to go to a specialist to get a diagnosis. Should I be worried? This is all new to me.
answer:
Marfan Syndrome is an inherited problem, and a relatively small proportion of the population gets it through mutation. The affected person essentially has weak connective tissue affecting the whole body. Many organs become more elastic. The problems associated with the heart and blood vessels include floppy valves in the heart and an enlarged aorta (the largest blood vessel in the body). This is significant as you need to understand that every time you have surgery, including something as simple as teeth extraction, you will need to use antibiotics. If you have a problem concerning the eye, the lens of your eye may be easily dislocated. Your joints are also looser, and this is associated with increased curvature of the spine. Do see a specialist to confirm the diagnosis.
