I need orthodontal treatment but allergic to metals
I am 17 years old with teeth that are very crooked. I know that I need orthodontal treatment to straighten them but am allergic to metals like steel. What options are there out there for me and how expensive would they be?
answer:
You really should see an orthodontist and enquire what is available to you. Nowadays, the use of steel wires is rare. Most orthodontists use an alloy and insert it into your gums before rubber bands are applied to the hooks on the teeth. With time, the rubber band will gradually pull the teeth into the correct position. The rubber bands also allow you to move your mouth to eat and drink but you will have to spend more time on oral hygiene, like brushing your teeth and rinsing your mouth more often to ensure food bits don’t get stuck in between your teeth and your braces. The price of the treatment will ultimately depend on the orthodontist you choose and may vary from $2000 to $3000, again depending on the duration of treatment, which in turn depends on how crooked your teeth are.
