Be fair. If it’s obvious that you’re the spender while he’s the saver, admit it. Be fair and don’t take advantage of the poor boy. Know your spending style and try to keep a lid on it before he blows his top.
But he firm too. Don’t let the boy push you over, either. It’s not fair if you keep coming up with the dough for his treats. Come up with a compromise that works.
Talk if over. Understand that you both have different needs and financial priorities. Work out a plan that meets both your priorities without shortchanging each other.
Throw in a reward. You don’t have to be stiff with every single cent. Don’t let your relationship revolve around money. Give each other a treat once a month. Have dinner at a nice restaurant or use the money to go on a holiday together.
Take control. Don’t depend on him 100 percent. Keep some of your personal expenses and savings separate. That way, should anything happen, there’s always back-up funds.
