My boyfriend’s mother is bad-mouthing me to my boyfriend. It started with complaints about my looks, lack of height and my large family. Then it progressed to accusations of me giving my boyfriend pimples, sleeping with married men and causing car accidents. I was shocked when my boyfriend related this to me. She didn’t used to be like this, in fact, I used to wish my mum was more like her in the beginning! Please advise.

Maybe it’s because she fears you’re getting serious and she’s afraid of losing her son? How does your boyfriend feel about the way she’s acting? Mothers can, unfortunately, come between couples, but only if the couple lets them. If your relationship is strong enough, she won’t be able to destroy it - which is clearly what she’s trying to do.
