signals from him and make the first move
Two weeks ago while on a business trip, I met this wonderful client. He’s suave, handsome, funny and we got along like a house on fire! After a few days of spending a lot of time with him for meetings, I thought things would go a little further. When he didn’t respond, I figured I should take the initiative and ask him out on a date. Big mistake! As soon as he heard it, he completely backed off saying that it wasn’t professional of me to mix business with pleasure. You can’t imagine my embarrassment over the entire incident. I’m so scared he’ll mention something about it to my boss since they’re good friends. Should I ‘fess up first?
answer:
Talk to your client. Tell him you’re sorry you read the signals wrong but, hey, we can all do that sometimes, can’t we? And aren’t guys always saying they wish women would sometimes make the first move, not leave it up to them? You were just trying to do this. Ask him to forget it cos’ that’s the professional thing to do. Then, if he does diss on you, tell your boss you were getting oh so many signals from him. Don’t take all the blame if he does the dirty and drops you in it. Because for sure you wouldn’t have made a move if you didn’t think you were getting some encouragement, right?
