I have sensitive skin and cannot be out in the sun for very long. The problem is my new boyfriend loves nothing more than staying out and baking in the sun all day. I don’t want to compromise the health of my skin, but it seems if I don’t, I have to compromise spending as much time as I’d like with my boy. What’s the solution?

Explain to your boy that sitting in the sun actually causes you pain, then give him the option of continuing to expose himself (so to speak) without you by his melanoma-inviting side. If he insists you join him, tell him to take himself and his tanned hide for a walk as he obviously cares more about how he looks than how you feel. Don’t, however, insist he stop as this will only breed resentment. Instead, arrange to hang out together after his session in the sun and find something you enjoy in the meantime. This period apart may well make him realise what he enjoys more — the sun or your company.
