His mother doesn’t like me because of my looks
I’m really in love with my boyfriend. We have been together for almost three years and during all this time, he has always come to see my parents, but I’ve never even met his. My boyfriend is considered handsome whereas I’m just a typical girl, with a flat nose, but I thought he loved me no matter what I looked like. But last Sunday, he showed my picture to his mum and it sounded like she doesn’t like me. Because of my looks she said I was no match for her son. I know my boyfriend loves me, but I’m afraid his mum will influence him. Now, I feel uncomfortable with our relationship. What should I do now?
Answer:
It doesn’t matter what his mother thinks, it’s you he wants or he wouldn’t still be with you. And if she does try to influence him based purely on your looks and he listens to her, well, he isn’t worth having as a boyfriend is he? But I suspect that beneath your fears about looks lurks a sense of insecurity in the relationship. It’s this you need to address. Looks are what attract us to someone to begin with, but after three years, it matters a lot less.
