6 Ways to score a date

Be a friend first.
Try not to approach every guy you meet as a potential boyfriend. (Guys have a built-in desperation detector; they can tell instantly if you’re anxious to be asked out.) Take things slow. Get to know him. Tell him a funny story. The best romances often begin as friendships.

Be a good date—even if you don’t have one. Sooner or later, when a guy’s interested in a girl, he asks himself one thing: Could I take her out in public? If the answer’s no, a guy will generally back off (unless, of course, he’s trying to shock his parents—in which case, the girl with the most pierced body parts wins). Basically, guys bypass rude and crude girls for the friendly, low-maintenance types who don’t playgames.

Resee yourself.
When you look in the mirror, try not to focus on what you perceive as your physical flaws. Focus instead on the parts of you that you want others to notice. Maybe you’ve got a great smile or pretty hands or super-shiny hair. If you notice and appreciate the qualities that make you special, chances
are that a special guy will notice them too.

Flirt.
Guys can be a little dense when it comes to picking up a girl’s signal. If you like a guy who’s clueless, it may be time to review your flirting techniques. Do you smile a lot when you’re around him? Do you tease him in a playful way? If not, you may need to be a little more obvious about your affections.

Kiss a lot of toads.
Well, you don’t actually have to kiss them. But every now and then, it’s a good idea to go out with a guy who’s not on your Top 10 list of desirable dudes. Who knows? You may find that the guy with the flannel-shirt fixation is, well, a prince.

Tell your critic to kiss off.
Every-one has one. That nagging, surly voice inside your head that tries to convince you that you don’t have a date because, basically you’re worthless. You wouldn’t talk to your worst enemy the way you let that critic drown you in self-doubt. Put a lid on it.
