Abnormal bowel movements
I’ve been experiencing abnormal bowel movements. I’ve read that the symptoms for bowel cancer are unexplained weight loss, irregular bowel movements and the passing of blood. This is happening to me! When I do go to the toilet, there’s blood and it’s very painful. I’m 15 years old.
Answer:
I don’t think you have bowel cancer because of your age, but I do think you should see your doctor for a check-up. It’s difficult to know what might be going on without more info. Your symptoms could be explained by a number of things, like constipation causing a tear near your anus and leading to pain or bleeding. If you’ve lost weight, then you may need to be checked for dietary or absorption problems, and inflammation or infection of the bowel. A doctor can take a history of your symptoms and examine you, then she may decide to do some blood tests or other tests to have a closer look. She should make you feel comfortable when examining you and always explain what she’s doing.
