Marriage minded
My boyfriend and I have been dating for three years (we’re 17 now), and we want to get married right after graduation. But my parents don’t think I’m ready. How can I let them know that we’re serious?
Answer:
Your mission: to show the parents that you’re together enough to make your own love decisions and that you’re not itching to get hitched just to show them that they can’t stop you.
And they can’t. But any move you make will be way smoother if they’re on your side, so it’s worth making nice.
Often what parents want is to feel like their opinions are not being totally ignored. Tell them that you respect their point of view and that you’ll consider holding off a year on your trip down the aisle.
Once they see that you and your honey are thinking things through (and that you realize waiting is no biggie ’cause you have forever to be together) they’ll probably lay off.
