Scary mother
A few weeks ago I had sex with my boyfriend for the first time. I feel awful doing this behind my mum’s back. I’m almost 16 and mum likes my boyfriend. How can I tell her?
Answer:
Since you’re under the age of 16 years, it’s not legal for you to have sex. So even if your mother likes your boyfriend, she can’t legally agree to your sexual relationship. If she did, she’d be breaking the law.
If you don’t intend on having sex again, then it might be easiest for everyone if you didn’t tell your mum. But if you want an ongoing sexual relationship, you can be sure your mother will find out in time, so it’d be best if you were the one to tell her. She may also appreciate knowing so she can help ensure you are protected against pregnancy and STDs. To help prevent both, always use a condom when you have sex.
