Happy Days

* No matter how imperfect your day has been, don’t end it without recalling some moment of kindness or beauty or joy.

* When that seems too hard, review your day as though it had happened to someone else. Run it through your mind, pointing out to yourself what you may not have appreciated at the time. (You could have talked longer to your neighbour - you were having fun. The sky was a gorgeous colour when you came home. That apple you ate after dinner was sweet and crisp. Your clothes are clean and warm - and rather smart! You are breathing in and out with ease.)

* Increase your opportunities for joy. Read books or see movies that lift your spirits. Spend time with family and friends who are optimistic. Pause to take in the beauty of a tree, a flower or a bird’s call. Touch others with love and respect. Burn incense or scented oils in your rooms. Check that every room you spend time in contains one beautiful object on which your eyes can rest.

* Return your mind again and again to what is already perfect and complete.
