I want to get my ears pierced, but my friend told me that when she got hers pierced she ended up with keloids. What are they?
answer:
Keloids are overgrown scars. Keloids that form in relation to ear piercing can start out as reddish scars that swell up around the pierced area and become progressively harder. If you tend to experience a lot of rashes on your ears or small cysts in your ears, you may want to think twice about getting them pierced. Also, if you have a family or personal history of keloids, you should avoid getting your ears pierced. Keloids can be treated with cortisone shots, but in some cases, once keloids form, it is difficult, if not impossible, to get rid of them.
