My boyfriend really bugs me
I love my boyfriend very much, but he gets on my nerves. He’s really immature for his age, he makes bad jokes, and he bores me. The only things he likes to talk about are planets, the weather, winning at beano, and skiing. He actually gets excited about blizzards and thunderstorms. My friends don’t like him, especially my best friend; she doesn’t like the way he treats me and thinks I should break up with him. Other people think so, too. I don’t know what to do.

If a guy bores you, an noys you, doesn’t take you seriously,and treats you badly—and you two have nothing in common—why wouldn’t you break up with him? Granted, there’s pressure out there to have a boyfriend, and of course no guy is perfect, but when your relationship is more about mutual torture than anything good or fun, it’s sort of counterproductive, isn’t it? Put another way, is it worth hanging out with someone you can’t stand just to have a boyfriend?
You say you love him, but part of love, or at least romantic love, is being able to be around someone with out wanting to, like, gag him. As long as you’re sure you’re fed up—and aren’t just letting your best friend’s opinion prevail—you may as well set the guy free. That way you can look for someone you actually like to be around, and he can hunt for girls who appreciate talk about blizzards. (Believe me, they’re out there.)
